On A Cold Winter’s Night
It is not quite Winter yet – not technically – but it feels like it already. There is snow on the ground, cruel wind rushing along the air, and a steady dip in temperatures at night. Even in the sunlight of the day, it doesn’t warm much. When I get out of work it is already dark, and once the Christmas lights come down it will be even dimmer. It’s too soon to think of this, though. There will be time later, and a whole stretch of the season to see us into 2010. I’ll be on tour then, trying valiantly to escape, trying vainly to disappear, trying to be anywhere but in the midst of another winter in upstate New York.

When he says “tour” it means he goes to see friends to show him the stuff he’s been writing and some photos he took. Tickets are not required.

Jamie – a perfect and succinct explanation! (I usually add the word “delusional”, but I like your version better.)

So, I’m just guessing here, you’re not overly fond of long cold winters in New York? Hum.
