Alan Bennett Ilagan is a freelance writer and amateur photographer who resides in upstate New York. A graduate of Brandeis University, Ilagan has been published in Instinct, xy magazine, Windy City Times, Q Northeast, Metroland, commUNITY, and ‘The Project for a New Mythology.’ He contributed to Michael Breyette’s ‘Summer Moved On’ and ‘Illustrated Men.’ He has been profiled in Unzipped, Genre, Diversity Rules! Magazine, and Upstate Magazine and has worked with photographers Steven Underhill and Dennis Dean.
His own photography has been featured in several solo exhibitions: ‘The Eye of the Ego’ – September 2008; ‘The Reaping of the Vine’ – January 2009; ‘In the Bedroom’ – March 2009; ‘Flowers of Gray’ – April 2009; and ‘Boston in Stone’ – April-May 2009.
From 2008 through 2012, Ilagan was the Gallery Manager at the Romaine Brooks Gallery at the Pride Center of the Capital Region in Albany, NY. In 2008 he was voted “Best Dressed Man in the Capital Region” by the readers of the Times Union. He has lived with his partner Andy since 2000. They were married in Boston, MA in May 2010, and remain happily unburdened by children.
