The early days of fall can sometimes be mistaken for a few late days of summer, but I think we have passed that point. The nights no longer hold the heat of the day, and rain has returned to the regular forecast. Soon the first hard frost will wilt the remaining flowers and foliage in the garden, striking down what took months to become – the first stage of putting the plant matter back into the soil, the last stage of this particular circle of life.
Life, death and rebirth in a matter of months.
I used to mourn when all the green turned brown, when it fell off from the branches and returned to the earth. Now I welcome the end of this stage of the cycle, embracing the oncoming slumber of the garden, grateful for the rest and reprieve to restore and rejuvenate.
