A Little Spark of Joy

Little sparks of joy tend to go unnoticed and unappreciated in our quest for greater enjoyment, but I’ve always paused to consider the small jolt of beauty or goodness that one encounters when one slows down and savors the day at hand. Hence this appreciation post for this little yellow flower from a leggy succulent in the local greenhouse. Flopped over and onto the wooden palette on which it resided, the plant was a slightly leggy mess, but it put out these tiny yellow flowers that looked like little suns and stars. Whimsy and sparkle and a welcome reminder that the little things matter as much as the big ones, especially when you take a moment to consider them on their scale, narrowing the focus and putting into shadow the rest of life’s distractions. A mini-moment of meditation and mindfulness in the midst of a greenhouse stroll.
