The Fall of the Cowboy is off to a rollicking start, and on this first of October it feels like a fine and fitting place to pause for a spell and revisit how far we’ve already come. It’s been a long time since a new image/era/project had me feeling this inspired, which means it’s unfolding precisely how it should be – that the universe has finally aligned after years of feeling slightly out of sync. That doesn’t mean my demons have been eradicated – in fact, this only seems to have put them in clearer focus – and that’s good. You can’t vanquish what you cannot see; you cannot destroy what you cannot name. While nobody falls as hard as a cowboy, nobody rises as miraculously as a cowboy either. Let’s revisit where this cowboy’s already taken us…
It began with a midnight ride into autumn, the kind that comes with an ominously portentous hint at what lies ahead.
Setting the scene of this Fall of the Cowboy, our introductory theme post ushered in a brand new image.
My first pair of cowboy boots slipped onto my feet as if made for them.
Like all things having to do with my life and this website, it started off as nothing more than a pose. Or did it?
A cowboy often comes into his own in The Fall – that’s when the true test of a cowboy begins. Anyone can survive the summer.
Even Tom Ford got in on the cowboy action with this flanker of his Ombre Leather line.
Cowboys enjoy trouble as much as I always have, making this persona a perfect match.
In the spooking season, a cowboy makes his own way, forging his own path.
Hinting at a new project, a two-cowboy waltz speaks of the unspoken love.
These boots were made for walking after midnight.
The cowboy’s conundrum (as if there was only one) defines what it means to be human in this fractured world.
My real-life pardner (and husband) is a bit of a cowboy himself – and maybe only two cowboys were meant to be together.
A cowboy in contemplation is the resting stance of this mythical creature.
Providing the soundtrack to the season, Orville Peck’s album ‘Mule’ is a moving, majestic, and magical collection of music.
Finally, ‘The FALL of the COWBOY’ is becoming its own project – but don’t tell anyone because I like it better when it’s quiet.
