Hunk of the Day: Kevin Sessums

I knew his name because at the height of my Madonna obsession (I’d say 1991 to 1992) I learned absolutely every detail of her promotional work, and that included the name of those who wrote articles on her. Kevin Sessums was a writer for ‘Vanity Fair’ then, and he did a wonderful piece on Madonna. Over and over I read and re-read his story, and searched for her through the words of him. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I became reacquainted with Mr. Sessums and his two books, ‘Mississippi Sissy’ and ‘I Left It On The Mountain’. His FaceBook page was a telling and honest look behind the career of a survivor, and survivors make the best Hunks of the Day, hence this latest honor for Mr. Sessums. Being strong enough to survive, and to keep going when so much of the world wants to forget, is an admirable trait, and Sessums has retained that resilience and fought back from the dark pools of despair that earlier derailed his career. These days he is an activist through words and deeds and a life lived openly and proudly – the very best sort of living example of how to turn things around. He’s also matured from a twink into a gentleman, and lived to tell the tale. Some Hunks of the Day matter a little more to me. Check out his written work to see why.
