Kathy Griffin At the Palace
By the time this post goes up, I’ll be en route to Kathy Griffin’s show at the Palace Theater in Albany, NY (hopefully chowing down on a decent bit of dinner). I may be the only gay guy not super-overwhelmingly-excited by this. However, when your husband purchases two tickets and looks at you like an eager puppy returning a tennis ball, you grin and say thank you. (See, marriage has mellowed me.)
A few years ago I might have shared in the creaming of my pants, but Ms. Griffin’s relevance in my life has waned as the reality television programming/pseudo-celebrities she often references has never been an obsession of mine. I wouldn’t know the difference between the Hills, the Treetop Hill, the WB, the CW, the WTF or the PYT if my life depended on it.
Despite that, I do enjoy Ms. Griffin’s comedic talents, and she will no doubt give an entertaining live show. That, and dinner with my husband, is enough for a Sunday night out. (And the pretty Palace has always been easy on the eyes.)
UPDATED ADDENDUM: We have returned from the show, and I have to admit it was funnier and sharper than I expected, and I actually got most of the references (thank you HomoRadio!) It’s always impressive when an entertainer works for their audience, and for almost two hours Ms. Griffin did not disappoint. Thanks to my husband for an unexpectedly hilarious evening out.
