The Wrath of Winter

1awintwrath1Returning with a vengeance, Winter has proved to be a far more bitter and petulant bitch than we thought she’d be this year, but we’re still under for the season, so I’m not going to go ballistic just yet. It also provided a nice setting for a few quick photos.

These were taken from the front steps of our home, with a little aid from a flashlight. Sometimes the simplest things produce the most magical results.

Those photos are magical and full of winter’s beauty. I can look at them and almost feel the cold and remember the sounds made by crunching snow, and snapping frozen twigs. When I lived in Illinois, on nights like that I would go outside before I went to bed, to admire the beauty of winter’s fullest wrath. Drifted and piled snow is prettiest at night when seen in shadow and dappled moonlight. I’d stay outside for as long as it took to smoke most of a cigarette, and then go back in, with my gratitude for fireplaces, hot chocolate and cashmere renewed. Thanks for all the beauty you continually find and bring to my life. JK

I’ve heard rumors overnight about you boys and your snowfall. Damage, limbs down, plants damaged, etc. But, you’re right, the pics are amazing!
