Men’s Wearhouse (Or Big Brother?)

Since our engagement announcement was in various newspapers, Andy and I have received three separate mailings from Men’s Wearhouse offering specials on wedding packages. The first time I didn’t mind so much (though I did wonder how they got my mailing address since we’re not supposed to be listed anywhere). When Andy got his, however, he was a bit more bothered (being a retired police officer, it should not be so simple to find out his home address). Now, after receiving the third mailing, I’m getting a little annoyed as well, as it’s becoming intrusive (and was always unwanted – neither of us are wearing tuxedoes, or even suits for that matter).

I wouldn’t mind if there was something of use or value in it, but we have no need for “five paid tuxedo rental packages” in order to choose one of the following: Free Tuxedo, Free Suit, or Free groom’s tux rental. (And who would choose the rental over the free tux? Am I missing something? No, I didn’t read the asterisked fine-print, so maybe the confusion is cleared up there.)

Finally, I guess the reason I’m so offended by the repeated attempts to lure me into the nearest Men’s Wearhouse store (”Across from the Colonie Center” as their note so helpfully informs) is that I’m not a Men’s Wearhouse kind of guy. It’s just not my style. The last time I was in there a few years ago, they didn’t have any flat-front pants with their suits. I’m hopeful things have changed since then, for their sake, but I don’t feel the need to revisit the scene of such a crime.

If anyone has a need for five tuxedo rentals, let me know (that is, if Men’s Wearhouse hasn’t already tracked you down).

In order to get a suit jacket to fit, I have to buy a long and have the coat taken in and shortened. It seems insane, but for me that’s how the suit fit thing goes down.. and the Men’s Warehouse tailors here fit my coats better than anyone else. I believe they have lots of suits with flat-front pants. I’ve never bought a suit from Neiman’s, but I have from Macy’s and Nordies, and the lowly Men’s Warehouse quality and service was as good.

Hi Alan….I thought I would offer another shameless plug :) I own a website called FineTuxedos.com, and we SELL name brand tuxedos and formal wear accessories for just about the price of a rental. I would be happy to offer you and your group further discounts on our already low prices….please feel free to email directly if I can help. Great Blog!

Alan, if you only knew how easy it is to get information about you and Andy, you would be alot more careful about what you share with your blog and newspapers. I always use the name anonymous, not because I’m ashamed of any comments i make but because I don’t want information out there in cyberspace

Hmm… mens wearhouse actually carries clothes that Nordstrom and other big chains carry. You might want to go back. The sell people are very helpful and experienced. plus the tailoring is guaranteed and the prices are a little better. I rather shop were there are consultants helping you, rather than clerks.

    Hey Alan,

I am actually an employee of a Men’s Wearhouse store. I’d just like to say sorry for all of the mailers. A lot of times we get lists of names from bridal shows and things of that nature. If you would like to stop receiving mailers you can call customer service and they will take your name off of the list.

We do have very well trained tuxedo/suit consultants as opposed to clerks and although the mailer for the 5 paid tuxedo rentals may not help you, we do offer tuxedo rentals starting at $49.99 for individual rentals. :-D

We have also directed our attention more towards younger wedding customers and and have added a huge selection of modern fit suits that are more fitted that all have flat front pants.

Hopefully you’ll take the time to stop in again one day!

Thanks for your message Matt. Neither myself nor my partner have ever been to a Bridal Show – we each started getting flyers right after our engagement announcement was in the newspaper, so I’m guessing that’s how we got on the list (which we both considered rather invasive). That said, I appreciate your apology (which was totally unnecessary – I know it’s a business). I will also, based on your polite response, give your store another chance when I’m in the area. – Alan
