Brokedown Derby
Andy and I had dinner at The Brown Derby this week (before seeing ‘All About Eve’ at the Palace Theater). While the food was good, as it always is, I’m not sure how much longer they’re going to be around downtown Albany. The first hint of trouble was when I called for a reservation and the message said they were only serving lunch on Fridays. The second sign was the fact that they had removed a couple of the banquettes in the middle of the restaurant and replaced them with regular tables. Finally, and most importantly, they still don’t know how to make a decent cocktail. This time it wasn’t a Negroni, just a simple dry vodka martini, and the bartender once again assumed that dry meant more dry vermouth. That’s going to kill them.
